Guys do that and so do women, for the same reason. They want to look good for their person of interest. There is a specialized gesture of grooming when both women and men first meet women and men they find attractive. OK so what is this gesture? Hard to explain, but you know it when you see it.
I am married to an ER doc and agree that having your own life, being independent, and not going into the relationship with any preconceived notions is what makes it work for us. To her, if you don't marry in the temple, she will probably do it after you die anyway. Neither of our children ever considered medicine as a career after seeing how much their dad missed out on. Had to switch to more flexible job. Most want nothing to do with the church.
My youngest starts Kindergarten next fall. Should we try to heed their counsel and marry in the Church. It's satire, but this is all stuff you may hear at Thanksgiving dinner. We have been together for just over a year and married for 3 months.
